Before you scale a price checker
Before scaling a price checker, define what counts as a valid observation. A successful HTTP request does not establish that you received the right product, currency or delivery conditions.
In our fictional example, the item price rises from EUR 24 to EUR 25. Delivery falls from EUR 4 to an explicitly stated EUR 0, so the delivered total falls from EUR 28 to EUR 25. Keep the product, variant, quantity, seller, delivery destination and tax treatment comparable. Missing delivery is unknown; it is not free.
A second fictional observation returns USD when the acceptance rule requires EUR. Keep that attempt with its rejection reason, but do not store it as a new comparable price. Its traffic still belongs in your measured sample.
Estimate from the whole sample
The walkthrough uses a separate, invented workload sample: 10,800,000 transferred bytes and 120 accepted observations. These are teaching inputs, not results from the three offers above or from a retailer test.
That gives 90,000 bytes per accepted observation. A schedule of 1,000 products across two markets, checked four times daily for 30 days, contains 240,000 planned observations:
- 240,000 × 90,000 bytes = 21.6 GB.
- Adding a chosen 20% allowance gives 25.92 GB.
Here, 1 GB means 1,000,000,000 bytes. Failed attempts and retries belong in the sample total once. The allowance is a planning choice, not a guarantee or a bill. Measure a permitted sample with your intended collection method and reconcile your counter with settled provider usage before buying for a larger run.
